Careers Support in Languages
"Educating for capability"
Applied, real-world, contemporary-focused programmes
- Our language programmes are applied, non-literary and communicative.
- We offer languages with translation and interpreting, linguistics and TESOL.
- More time is spent teaching language skills at Salford than in many other leading languages departments
Our Languages degrees often involve work placements
- The International Placement Year is a compulsory part of most of our Undergraduate programmes, and typically involves students spending up to a year abroad during the third year of full-time study.
- Nationally 75% of students study or teach in their placement year. At Salford about 50% of students undertake a work placement.
- A School of Languages' work placement can enhance your career prospects and provide you with practical experience with an employer in a foreign country.
- When looking for work, our students benefit from our extensive, well established network of placement providers including large multinationals such as Guinness, Deutsche Bank, Mercedes-Benz and Alcatel.
Developing general, transferable skills
- Emphasis is placed on developing general, transferable skills (problem solving, team work and presentational skills).
- There is a three-year programme of study skills, developing independent learning, PDP and enhancing employability.
- Students receive support from a Personal Academic Tutor and SoL’s dedicated Student Support and Development Officer.
