Study close to Manchester City Centre

Did you know that Salford University is closer to the centre of Manchester than Manchester University? And that Manchester is one of the most exciting cities in Europe? We are located on the University’s green Peel Park Campus, less than 20 minutes' walk from the centre of Manchester - right on the doorstep of big-city diversity and fun! Find out what the City of Manchester has to offer students and find further information at the Visit Manchester site.

Salford is a campus university, with some award-winning buildings joined together by green, tree-lined paths and a pleasant park on the banks of the River Irwell. Student accommodation is available nearby, local transport facilities are excellent and communications with the rest of the country are good. Study a wide range of languages

We teach a wide range of languages within the school, including Arabic, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese, with programmes covering all levels from beginners to Masters. We also offer probably the widest range of English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching in the North West of England. All the teaching of EFL is accredited by the British Council.

Undergraduate and Postgraduate language programmes

At undergraduate level you can study one, two or three languages up to degree standard.  Languages can also be combined with linguistics, translation and interpreting studies, business/ marketing, politics, and security studies. The School offers masters programmes in Applied Linguistics, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Translating and Interpreting: all areas in which our expertise is nationally and internationally recognised. Find out more about our Undergraduate degrees and Postgraduate qualifications.

Short language courses

In addition to our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, we run a number of short language courses for audiences ranging from members of the public wishing to learn a language to international students wishing to develop their current English language skills.

Our language courses are beneficial in the real world

Our programmes combine an academic curriculum with a strong vocational focus. We have gained a reputation for our innovative applied approach to language learning with a non-literary based programme, and where possible, students benefit from work or study placements to enhance their learning experience.
